Update on the Masjid Seizure

Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabatakatu,

We would like to give you an update on the status of the seizure of the Masjid we announced last week.

While we are still working on resolving the matter, the remaining trustees of Chingford Islamic Society have agreed that it does not serve the best interests of the community to get into any physical interactions or to forcefully go in and, for example, change the locks again. This will only lead to fights outside the house of Allah and bring the masjid into disrepute. For this reason we are seeking mediation as far as possible or, if mediation attempts fail and there is no other way, a legal challenge.

In the meantime we have been informed that the occupiers are continuing with the five daily salaah and Jumma salaah and musallees are able to attend. We understand that the timings are the same as those published on this website.

The trustees of Chingford Islamic Society would like to make it clear that as this is not operated or authorised by us, we are not responsible in any way for any issues, matters, or incidents that occur until the dispute is resolved.
