Alhamdulillah, for the first time last year, due to the COVID19 lockdown we began to take payments online for Sadqatul Fitr, Zakaat and Lillah. This money was then sent through a partner charity, Global Aid Foundation, that works primarily with the Rohingya muslims of Myanmar.
Alhamdulillah through donations from the local community we were able to send a total of £2424 in zakaat, fitrana (sadqatul-fitr), and saqdah. Global Aid Foundation sent us images of the food parcels that were distributed which can be viewed below.
Sadqat-ul Fitr
Sadaqat-ul-Fitr (also called Zakat-ul-Fitr or Fitrana) is an obligatory charity for every Muslim who possess the Nisab amount (approx £240 at current rates) or possessions equal to this amount. It must be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr and is given to the poor.
The amount to pay this year is £3.50 per person. This includes all members of the family, including new-born children.
To make things easier for the community in the current climate, we are accepting sadqat-ul-fitr via online payments.
All processing costs of the transaction will be taken from the Gift Aid contributions, and not from your sadqatul fitr. If you pay UK income tax please tick the gift aid box. We expect that even after claiming gift aid there will still be money left over which we will also give to the poor.
Zakaat
Each Muslim must calculate his or her own Zakah individually. In simple terms, this involves adding up a person’s wealth (cash, bank balance, gold, silver, stocks, and shares) and then calculating 2.5% of it which is then distributed to the poor. This money cannot be used by the Masjid or for public services – it has to be given to the poor.
To make things easier for the community in the current climate, we are accepting zakaat via online payments. We guarantee that 100% of your zakaat money will be redistributed to the poor.
